July's meeting will feature a presentation by Michael Macor on photojournalism and his experiences working in this field for over forty years. Michael Macor grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. He began his career with the Valley Times newspaper in Pleasanton, CA. In 1986, Macor joined the staff of the Oakland Tribune, where in 1990 they were awarded a Pulitzer Prize for Spot News Photography for the coverage of the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake that struck the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1992 he joined the staff of the San Francisco Chronicle. Macor was awarded first place as Newspaper Photographer of the Year by Pictures of the Year International in 2005 while working for the Chronicle. During his 40-year career, Macor has covered a variety of events including NFL Super Bowls, Major League Baseball World Series, NBA Championships, several national political conventions, the war in Iraq and the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
There will also be a critique session. Members may submit one image in one of the following, assigned subject "Blue Hour", or Recent (taken after June 16th). Images will be critiqued by attending members.
